Calling all designers, architects, gallery workers, curators, interns and art educators to join UVW’s new Culture & Design Workers Group.
Workers in the design and cultural sector are coming together to organise for our collective rights and to take action against exploitative work practices. Many of us are precarious, overworked and underpaid. We are made to compete against each other for jobs with no disclosed salaries and we often deal with bad management and terrible conditions. Through UVW, we will campaign about our rights at work, secure legal representation for workers, and organise to transform our industry from within, confronting:
Illegal unpaid internships
Work-related stress and burnout
Precariousness of freelance or temp work
We aim to unify disparate, atomised and increasingly precarious workers. A broad, intersectional definition of cultural work is needed in order to resist this exploitation, galvanise solidarity between all art-workers and hold institutions and bosses to account.
If you work as a designer, art worker, architect or any other creative worker; in a studio, gallery, art school, theatre or any other institute; as an employee, agency worker or self employed, join us to discuss how we can organise.
If you are already a member of UVW and are interested in helping us plan our next steps, please join our organising chat on Discord
