Here you will find everything you need to know about motions for the UVW AGM at 1pm, on Saturday 27 March 2021

WHAT IS A MOTION?
It is a call to action submitted by UVW members. A motion is considered at the AGM and members vote on it. If accepted, the UVW will put the motion into action.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?
All motions must be submitted by midday on Saturday 27 February.

WHO CAN SUBMIT A MOTION?
Any UVW member can submit a motion to the AGM.
Each motion should have the support of at least 5 UVW members.
The Consultation Group (CG) has submitted 3 motions based on results of the mass consultation.
All members will receive the CG motions with their AGM invite.

WHAT CAN A MOTION COVER?
Motions should be relevant to UVW and propose actions that are in line with our mission and role as a trade union
Each motion should focus on one single subject.
If your proposal covers different subjects you should submit separate motions.

WHAT DOES A MOTION LOOK LIKE?
They should be no more than 250 words.
Start by giving some brief background information.
Keep it practical and specific – think action-focused rather than policy statements.
Be realistic. The action you propose should be concrete and achievable within the resources available to us.
Give it a title that expresses the intent of your motion.
List the names of the group, sector or other individual members that support the motion.

HOW DO I PROPOSE AN AMENDMENT TO THE CG MOTIONS?
You may want to suggest an amendment to the 3 mass consultation motions.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
All motions and suggested amendments to the mass consultation motions will be fed into the CG.

The CG will:
– make sure the motions meet the submission criteria
– discuss with the proposers of similar motions about how they can be merged.

Once the motions are finalised they will be sent to all members before the AGM.
Those motions that are most important to members will be dealt with first, after the mass consultation motions.
The order of priority for motions will be decided by you via a poll sent out in advance of the AGM.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE AGM
The mass consultation motions will be dealt with first, other motions will be taken in order of priority.
Each proposer will be given 3 minutes to explain why the motion is important and why members should support it.
A set amount of time will be given for other members to speak in favour or against the motion.
Members will then be invited to vote.

What happens after the AGM
Any motions not heard at the AGM, due to time constraints, will be referred to the UVW Executive Committee.
Motions that are passed will be sent to the Executive Committee, who will work with the UVW team to put them into action.
