UVW’s AGM: Save the date!

5 Oct
2019
, 2 PM – 6 PM

This year’s AGM will be in the Waterloo Action Centre.

The address is 14 Baylis Rd, Waterloo, SE1 7AA — just around the corner from Waterloo Station, and a brief walk from UVW’s offices. See the map. Proceedings are expected to continue from 2pm-6pm, with the customary music and food until 8pm.

All members are welcome. We hope to see as many of you there as possible, to ensure we keep building a strong, members-led and sustainable union!

UVW is your union and your presence, so your voice and votes are really important. Please put the date in your diary and make an effort to be there. This will be a landmark event for our collective future. Let us know if you cannot attend, but would like to participate remotely.

About the AGM

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a chance for all UVW members to get together, to discuss and make decisions on what the union does, how it works and where it should be going.

This year it is particularly important. 2019’s AGM will be asked to agree to a mass consultation of members on the union’s priorities and future direction. There will also be elections for the steering group, which will carry out that work over the coming months.

Motions

A motion is a proposal for the union to consider – a specific action you’d like the union to take, on an issue that’s important to you. If the motion is passed it becomes a decision taken, that the union then has to act on.

Any member can submit a written motion to info@uvwunion.org.uk. Motions must be received by 25th September.

Motions should be:

  • BRIEF — 250 words max

  • FOCUSED — Dealing with only one subject

  • RELEVANT & PRACTICAL — Actions that UVW is capable of achieving

If you submit a motion, you will be given the chance to introduce it before members are invited to discuss it and vote on it. This is your chance to convince members to support the motion.

Voting

All members will have a vote on every motion. Voting will mostly be a show of hands, but in some circumstances, there may be a secret paper ballot. Please remember to bring your membership number and some form of identification, so that you can participate.
