Dear Fiona Gordon, Chief Executive Officer of Ogilvy UK, Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman of Ogilvy & Alistair Craig, Managing Director of Anabas, I write to encourage you to listen to your cleaners meet their simple request for a night shift enhancement and full sick pay. Your cleaners are all from Black, brown and migrant backgrounds and they deserve to be treated with as much respect as anyone else who works at Oglivy. The cleaners work night and their pay and benefits do not reflect the risks to their health. It is widely known that night shift workers are at increased risk of depression, cancer and heart attacks. Nor do they reflect the sacrifice they make by working extremely unsociable hours. I understand that the cleaners already get the London Living Wage, but that wage is a recommended floor, not a ceiling. I therefore urge you to do the right thing and give the cleaners a dignified wage that respects the sacrifice they make, as well as full sick pay that acknowledges the serious dangers they are exposed to from night shift work. At the moment they simply cannot afford to get ill because of the totally inadequate rates of Statutory Sick pay which will see them receive no money for the first 3 days of illness and then only £10 a day thereafter. Please do the right thing and give the cleaners what they are asking for - what they need and deserve. Yours sincerely,
