Learn hands-on union organising skills with United Voices of the World (UVW) at the Emanuel Gomes Organising School, a two-month training programme designed to equip you with the skills to organise and empower precarious and migrant workers across London.
This programme is named in honour of Emanuel Gomes, a UVW member who tragically passed away after working sick during the Covid-19 pandemic instead of taking sick leave as he didn’t get sick pay. His story reflects that of millions of migrant workers facing exploitative conditions. Through this school, we aim to give people the training needed to support workers like Emanuel to fight injustice and build power in the most under-unionised and exploitative sectors.
✔️ ️Activists and aspiring union organisers, who don’t have a clear path through the traditional channels – such as becoming a workplace rep or union staff member.
✔️ Passionate individuals committed to workplace justice – no prior experience needed!
✔️ Those able to commit 2-4 hours per week (Tuesdays required + fieldwork)
At UVW we believe that the true measure of the strength of our movement can be found in how many of the most exploited workers participate in it and benefit from it. We have more than ten years of unique knowledge and experience in winning some of the most significant industrial disputes with low paid, precarious and migrant workers. By joining the school, you will have the opportunity to put into practice what you learn with workers in London’s hospitals, hotels, care homes and universities and beyond.
