Member-led, democratic decision-making is at the centre of everything we do at UVW.
Our Annual General Meetings (AGM) are where members set the direction of the union and decide how UVW continues building worker power through worker-led campaigns, strikes, worker trainings, and actions needed to win.
Workers also elect UVW members to an Executive Committee (EC), which works with the General Secretary between AGMs to ensure the union runs smoothly in line with the members’ mandate.
how we make decisions
AGM
Our AGM gives members the opportunity to come together from across all sectors and workplaces to celebrate our achievements and decide how UVW continues to build worker power. Register in advance to guarantee your attendance at the AGM. Spaces are limited.
Executive Committee
UVW’s Executive Committee (EC) is directly elected by, and accountable to, the membership. It is responsible for looking after the interests of the union and making decisions on behalf of UVW members between AGMs.
General Secretary
The UVW General Secretary (GS) is elected to ensure the decisions of the membership are implemented by the union. This is the only paid official that is directly elected by and accountable to the entire UVW membership.
Constitution
The union is governed by our Constitution, which sets out the rules, responsibilities and democratic processes that guide UVW and protect members’ interests.
