Decision making at UVW

We are a grassroots trade union of low- paid, migrant & precarious workers and we fight the bosses for dignity and respect through direct action on the streets and through the courts!

At UVW’s annual general meetings (AGM) members decide how we continue to build worker power. ✊🏾✊🏽✊

In between AGMs, the UVW executive committee works with UVW’s general secretary to ensure the union runs smoothly and in accordance with the members mandate.

Hundreds of UVW members joined the online AGM on 27 March 2021. Read about the decisions made and see strike leader Bile Azhouan’s  “We exist” video message.

Here’s a clip from our AGM in September 2019.

AGM 2023

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 25 February 2023 at Ark Walworth Academy.

The AGM gives UVW members the opportunity to come together from across all sectors and workplaces to celebrate our achievements and decide on how UVW continues to build worker power in 2023. ✊🏽

CONSTITUTION

An executive committee comprised of staff and UVW members ensures the union runs smoothly between AGMs and deals with capacity issues and resourcing.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The UVW Executive Committee (EC) is directly elected by, and accountable to, the membership. It is responsible for looking after the interests of the union as a whole and taking decisions on behalf of UVW members between AGMs.

GENERAL SECRETARY

UVW elects a general secretary to ensure the decisions of the membership are implemented by the union. This is the only paid official that is directly elected by and accountable to the entire UVW membership.

The general secretary of UVW is Petros Elia, elected unopposed on 8 September 2023

STAFF

A team of UVW staff cover casework, tribunal work, research and campaign communications support for disputes, organising support and specially funded projects in line with membership needs.
