Model motion: Support for Cleaners at Ark Globe Academy

This branch notes that:

  • Migrant cleaners at Ark Globe Academy, employed by Atlas Cleaning Limited, are reportedly being paid below the London Living Wage and are experiencing repeated payroll errors.
  • These workers, member of United Voices of the World union, secured the London Living Wage through campaigning in 2020, but this has since been withdrawn.
  • Cleaners provide essential services and are facing financial hardship during the cost-of-living crisis.

This branch believes that:

  • All workers deserve fair pay, dignity at work, and to be paid correctly and on time.
  • Organisations that promote fairness and social justice should uphold those values for outsourced workers as well as directly employed staff.

This branch resolves to:

  1. Call on Ark Globe Academy and Atlas Cleaning Limited to restore the London Living Wage immediately and resolve all payroll issues without delay.
  2. Publicise and support the cleaners’ campaign through union communications and solidarity actions.
  3. Write to both organisations expressing the union’s concerns and seeking an urgent resolution.
  4. Donate to the cleaners strike fund.
