Dear Draughts management, I am writing as a concerned supporter of workers’ rights and a member of the public who believes in fairness, dignity, and the legal right to organise. I was deeply shocked to hear that Awed Nur, a kitchen worker at your Stratford branch, was dismissed without consultation, or any disciplinary process — just one day after the United Voices of the World (UVW) union served official notice of a strike ballot involving your staff. Awed had a spotless record. The claim of a “reduced need for staffing hours” rings hollow, especially for a zero-hours contract worker whose shifts could have been adjusted without dismissal. This timing strongly suggests union victimisation, which is not only morally wrong, but unlawful. I urge Draughts to: Immediately reinstate Awed Nur Respect the legal rights of your workers to unionise and take part in collective action Engage in good faith with UVW to address staff concerns Your brand promotes community, inclusion, and respect — now is the time to live up to those values.
