Support the striking Sage care workers and call on Stephen Goldberg to do the right thing!

Stephen Goldberg is a trustee of Sage nursing home in North London. Along with two other trustees - both of whom are billionaires - they are refusing to provide the care workers and cleaners who have risked their lives to care for Sage's elderly and vulnerable residents throughout this pandemic with a living wage of £12 per hour and parity in sick pay and annual leave with NHS rates. If you believe they should do the right thing and give these workers a living wage and dignified T&Cs, send an email and let them know!

Dear Stephen Goldberg, As the co-chair of Sage Nursing home Trustees, we write to you to express our support for the care, domestic and maintenance workers at Sage campaigning for a living wage and better workplace for all. We are concerned for the wellbeing of your residents and your workers, who continue to go above and beyond to keep your nursing home clean, and safe, who are left in an environment that is short-staffed, mismanaged, where unfair treatment is rife and poverty pay is the norm. Furthermore, your response to the call for a living wage by key workers that live on and even below the poverty line in some cases as “unrealistic” is shocking and in extremely bad taste. We understand that Sage Nursing home is governed by a Board of Trustees that includes Benzion Shalmom Elizer Freshwater, a renowned and generous philanthropist who is also a trustee of many other charities and was estimated to have a net worth of over £2 billion in 2020. We call on you to consider the well-being of your residents and employees and call on you to take action to resolve the unfair treatment and issues around short staffing. We also call on all Trustees to make a nominal donation to the nursing home to ensure all employees earn a living wage and receive a sick pay scheme that allows them to take time off work when ill in order to protect their health and that of Sage residents.
