Settlement reached in North London care home dispute

United Voices of the World (UVW) is pleased to announce that a settlement has been reached between Sage Nursing Home and 14 UVW members employed in the home.

The 14 UVW members, filed a case in March 2021 at the Employment Tribunal alleging that the contents of a letter amounted to trade union victimisation and a breach of their human rights. Sage denied the allegations and resisted the claims. After dialogue and mediation, the parties have reached a settlement which avoids the need for litigation. The parties and the union have agreed not to disclose the terms of the settlement.

A spokesperson for UVW said:

“We are pleased that Sage Nursing Home bosses are willing to engage with the concerns of their workforce and we hope this settlement paves the way for an improved working relationship based on dignity and respect on both sides.

“This is by far more preferable rather than wasting money and resources on costly legal battles that could be better spent on care provision and improving pay and working conditions for the heroic key workers at the nursing home.”
