In 2025, UVW launched an exciting and innovative organising programme to equip activists with the hands‑on skills to organise and support precarious and migrant workers across London fight exploitation.
The school is named in honour of Emanuel Gomes, a UVW member who tragically died after going to work sick during the Covid‑19 pandemic because he had no access to full sick pay.
Emanuel’s story is the story of millions of migrant workers forced into impossible choices by exploitative employers and a broken system.
Through this school, we honour Emanuel by building the skills, discipline and confidence needed to support workers like him to fight injustice and transform the most under‑unionised and exploitative sectors of our economy.
✊ Activists and aspiring organisers without a clear route through traditional union pathways (such as becoming a workplace rep or paid official)
💥 Passionate people committed to workplace justice
🌍 Those who want to organise alongside low‑paid, precarious and migrant workers
No prior organising experience required. Just commitment, discipline and solidarity.
The Emanuel Gomes Organising School runs a yearly training programme led by UVW’s most experienced organisers.
UVW has led some of the most significant industrial disputes involving low‑paid, precarious and migrant workers in the UK over the last 10 years.
