After a period of positive engagement, United Voices of the World (UVW) and Safe Passage International have reached an important milestone with the signing of a trade union recognition agreement. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to healthy workplace relations, meaningful staff participation, and ensuring staff voices are heard in decisions that affect their working lives.
The recognition agreement means staff will have the right to negotiate collectively on pay, terms and conditions. UVW will have the right to access the workplace to support its members, and union representatives will have facilities time to represent colleagues effectively. This will help ensure staff feel supported, valued and empowered as they continue their vital work supporting refugee families.
Claudine Frisby, UVW member and Safe Passage worker, said: –
“We’re really happy to be a part of the UVW community. This vibrant union really aligns with our values as people, as employees and as an organisation. It’s really motivating to be a part of the workers’ fight for equality, dignity and respect in the workplace.”
Petros Elia, General secretary of UVW, said:
“UVW is proud to be the union of choice for so many charity and non-profit workers, standing up for those who spend their working lives supporting others. We welcome Safe Passage International’s constructive approach to union recognition and look forward to building a relationship based on cooperation, respect and mutual trust.”
