UVW Wins Union Recognition at Safe Passage Refugee Charity

“This vibrant union really aligns with our values as people, as employees and as an organisation.”

United Voices of the World (UVW) has signed a formal trade union recognition agreement with Safe Passage International, the charity supporting refugee families to reunite and rebuild their lives.

The agreement means Safe Passage staff now have a collective voice at work, with the ability to negotiate together on pay, terms and conditions, and workplace policies, supported by trained UVW workplace representatives. UVW will have the right to access the workplace to support its members, and union representatives will have facilities time to represent colleagues effectively. This will help ensure staff feel supported, valued and empowered as they continue their vital work supporting refugee families.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to healthy workplace relations, meaningful staff participation, and ensuring staff voices are heard in decisions that affect their working lives. It marks an important step for Safe Passage staff and for the growing number of charity and non-profit workers organising with UVW. It highlights the impact of collective organisation in workplaces built around care, solidarity, and social justice.

As Claudine, a Safe Passage worker and UVW member, explains: “We’re really happy to be part of the UVW community. This vibrant union really aligns with our values as people, as workers and as an organisation. It’s motivating to be part of the fight for equality, dignity and respect at work.”

UVW is proud to be the union of choice for so many charity and non-profit workers, standing up for those who spend their working lives supporting others. We welcome Safe Passage International’s constructive approach to union recognition and look forward to building a relationship based on cooperation, respect and mutual trust.

If you want dignity, respect, and a collective voice in your workplace, join United Voices of the World (UVW). Organising together is how change happens.
