As your constituent, I am writing to ask that you support striking care workers and cleaners at Sage Nursing Home in North London. These key workers have risked their lives to care for the elderly and vulnerable throughout this pandemic, but despite their hard work and sacrifice, they are paid a poverty wage of £8.72 - £9.60 an hour.

I believe that if this pandemic has taught us anything, it is that those who are the backbone of our society and upon whom we all rely to keep us safe are often the worst paid and denied the most basic of rights. Which is why these workers are asking for a living wage of £12 per hour and full pay sick pay and annual leave in line with NHS rates.

They are not asking for luxuries, but simply the bare minimum needed to live a dignified life in London. Several of your colleagues, both from the Labour Party and the Green Party, have tabled and signed Early Day Motion 1314 calling on Sage’s trustees to meet the workers’ demands. I am asking that you also support these workers by doing the following:

- Signing EDM 1314 and sharing the fact you have signed it on your social media and if it at all possible, including a short video expressing your support for the workers.

- Writing directly to Sage’s trustees, Adrian Jacobs and Stephen Goldberg, and calling on them to meet the workers’ demands and to negotiate with them in good faith. If we can show the trustees that the Sage workers have your support and the support of the public, it really could lead to victory at Sage which would not just be a victory for these workers, but a victory for all care workers across the UK who could look to this victory and aspire to replicate it.
