DISPUTES

WEQ workers defend their hard earned rights!

The right to collective bargaining and the hard-won gains of cleaners and concierges at West End Quays (WEQ) are under attack.

“We believe that a fair and respectful workplace is the foundation of the excellent service we aim to provide. The current climate of mistrust and intimidation is unsustainable and counterproductive for both staff and residents.” From an open letter to residents from WEQ workers

After a hard-fought battle in 2023 with a successful summer of strikes, concierge and cleaners at West End Quay luxury apartments won a major pay rise and union recognition.

But now David Groves, the managing director of West End Quay RTM Company Ltd, is attempting to impose these unjustified regressive, unnegotiated and possibly unlawful contractual changes;

Ending inflation based bay
Leads to real terms pay cuts

Performance-Related Pay (PRP) Scheme
Undermines collective bargaining
Risks bias, discrimination and pay inequality
Could lead to 25% pays gap within five years

Unfair Disciplinary Procedures
Hearings must be led by impartial, trained staff—not the Managing Director. His involvement removes the right to a fair appeal.

Rigid Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Standard Operating Procedures should guide, not police staff, and not be used as contract terms without consultation.

Misuse of CCTV
Monitoring without consent violates privacy and data laws.

Workers are asking for unconditional equality of annual leave and sick pay.

West End Quay workers are standing firm to defend and improve their conditions.

Their victory in 2023 proved that collective action works, and they are ready to take strike action once again.

THE WORKERS DEMAND:

  • A fair pay rise in line with inflation
  • The scrapping of PRP schemes
  • An end to surveillance in the workplace
  • Respect for the existing collective bargaining agreement
