Solidarity at UCU’s national conference with the LSE cleaners

Thank you to those UCU delegates from around the country at UCU’s national conference on Saturday 27th May in Brighton for getting together to support UVW’s cleaners campaign and strikes for equality at the LSE.

They have appealed to the congress:
-To urge the LSE to settle the dispute rather than threaten the law on picketing
-Support the demands of the LSE cleaners for parity for their pay and conditions.

They have also organised a collection after the congress session on Monday lunch time for the strikers’ hardship fund.

They noted the hypocrisy of the LSE and also noted “UVW’s combative and lively actions are an inspiration to us all, please have a look at the UVW’s website and FB page. They are very brave to take on these employers.

We have to support them. Their present situation should not become our future. We have to have a united fight against these issues in our university and colleges.”

Full statement which was read out at the main conference on Saturday in text to original video.

Further, there was an extremely well attended fringe meeting on Saturday evening at which several of UVW’s members on strike at the LSE were invited to discuss the strikes and appeal for solidarity. The atmosphere was fantastic and the support from UCU delegates was solid.

Word is spreading, support is growing, victory is nearing.
