Updates from our monthly meeting

Fantastic monthly meeting on Saturday at which Housing Action Southwark and Lambeth (HASL) delivered a brilliant workshop on basic housing rights. UVW hopes to work more closely with HASL in the coming months to combine forces in order to help our members and the local community fight the abuses of the housing market, particularly the private renting sector.

We also saw presentations from: our casework team about October’s cases (122 of them just in October!); UVW’s new and growing Woman and Non-Binary Group; and we heard from the members of a new branch which UVW will be launching in the new year.

We were also pleased to announce that by unanimous vote all of our paid staff will now receive £10.50 per hour, 30p above the new London Living Wage (UVW has an equal pay policy – everyone earns the same per hour). If UVW can do it, there’s no excuse for employers not to do the same!
