From September, we are back with Spanish language workshops to empower us in our workplace!

We have a whole calendar of FREE activities in Spanish for UVW members from September to Christmas, to learn and have fun, which will take place as always at Casa UVW. Movie nights or dance bingo, English classes, workshops on contracts, complaints, sewing or harassment… And, of course, we couldn’t miss our annual party to say goodbye to the year with camaraderie and solidarity!

10 September – Movie and hotdogs night 🎥🌭

Our successful film and hotdog night is back.

We will be screening «El buen patrón», an award-winning black comedy about a manipulative businessman, starring Javier Bardem, crossing every red line to get an efficiency award.

After the screening, there will be hotdogs and laughs.🌭

24 September – Workshop: What kind of contract do you have?

Do you know what kind of contract you currently have?

Do you know that there are different types of employment contracts?

Come and find out what your work contract is – self-employed, zero hours, agency work …. – as well as the different types of employment contracts in the UK and their characteristics.

8 October – 3 December – English language course

Want to learn English?

The 8-week course, running every Saturday from October 8 to December 3, will give you the tools and confidence to use English at work, stand up for your rights and enjoy your life in London 💪🏽.

Come to a free English trial session at UVW to meet your teachers and sign up for English courses this autumn on October 1.

All levels welcome.

8 October – Workshop: Bullying and harassment at work – ONLINE only

We often feel abused or harassed at work by a boss, a colleague or a group, and it is difficult to know what to do. Bullying at work has many faces: isolating a worker, discriminating against them, overloading them, defaming them…

If you want to know what is and what is not bullying at work or how to prove that you are being bullied at work, come to our workshop.

Learn what tools you have at your disposal to protect yourself, defend yourself and fight back.

22 October – Workshop : Sewing with la Bonita Chola

And sew on…

A sewing workshop to learn a simple and creative activity: sewing, mending or even re-designing a garment.

This workshop is the first of four, we will agree on the dates for the next three workshops in this first session.

No experience is necessary, it will be a breeze!

3 December – Workshop: Your salary matters

Do you know the difference between the national minimum wage and the living wage?

With rampant inflation and rising prices, there’s no better time to find out how much you should be paid and what to do if you’re not getting paid for all the hours you work.

17 December – Christmas party 🎉

2022 is proving a busy year of union victories, strikes and solidarity activities, so we will be saying goodbye to the year as it deserves: with an epic Christmas party!

Don’t miss it. As always, there will be good music, dancing and food in great company.
